We’re almost ready to launch the 2017 XYZZY Awards; the eligibility list has been assembled (thanks to Bruno Dias for help with scraping IFDB), but as usual, we’d like to give people a chance to double-check our work. If any of the following is incorrect or incomplete, please let us know as soon as possible.<\/p>\n
The baseline we start from is IFDB entries. (We might be looking into different approaches next year, but we’ll deal with that once this year’s Awards are complete.)<\/p>\n

Works can be considered ineligible for three reasons:<\/p>\n
Not released as complete in the year under consideration.\u00a0<\/strong>A game\u00a0should be eligible for\u00a0one year: the year it’s completed.\u00a0<\/strong>If a game\u00a0wasn’t\u00a0finished in 2017, we don\u2019t consider it. If it\u00a0was<\/em>\u00a0released in 2017, but it\u2019s presented as incomplete \u2013 it\u2019s a demo, or a public beta, an expansion to an existing game or the like \u2013 it becomes eligible in the year that it\u2019s completed. (We use best judgement, or ask the author, if a game is shown as \u2018Chapters 1-3 of 4\u2032 or \u2018Book 1 of the Foo Trilogy.\u2019)<\/p>\n The following works are presented as incomplete:<\/p>\n Choices that Matter: And Their Heroes Were Lost, Phill Berrie et al. Don\u2019t exist.\u00a0<\/strong>A lot of games are ephemeral \u2013 the author makes an IFDB entry and then never releases the game. Or the author publishes a game, then withdraws it from circulation without archiving it, or their website dies and the game with it.
